Round 3 Conference Round Up

Bulldogs v Tigers photo by Ian Lovell

A first-half blitz by Torfaen Tigers helped them to a 54-10 win against an inexperienced Blackwood Bulldogs side in Eastern section of the Welsh Conference Premier.

Blackwood eventually got onto the scoresheet on 64 minutes when Lewis Hamer broke through and jogged 20 metres unchallenged scored under the sticks. Jeremy Lloyd converted. However, Kevin Jones restored the balance after intercepting on his own 20 metre line and ran the length of the field to score with Entwhistle converting.

Newport Titans produced a big score against an understrength Valley Cougars side running in 15 tries, many of them

long range efforts, to win 80-4. The Titans were 70-0 up before Rhodri Morris scored the Cougars’ only try.

The Titans ran riot in the second half as the Cougars, who were at times down to 12 men due to injuries, stood no chance against their more experienced who ran in 9 tries all of which were converted.

In the Western Conference the West Wales Sharks put up a strong performance for much of the game but the experience of the Blue Bulls proved t0 be too strong and they emerged 38-18 winners.

The Valley Miners completed the round with a 48-14 win against the Aberavon Fighting Irish on Wednesday evening at Ystalyfera.

Neville Price of the Valley Miners said "A couple of recent signings made all the difference and I was really pleased with the teams performance."
