Round 4 Conference Preview

The Welsh Conference Premier East continues again this Saturday with two intriguing clashes.

In a match between the two unbeaten sides, Cardiff Demons play their first game back at St Peters RFC on Saturday when they welcome Torfaen Tigers to the Harlequins ground.

St Peters are celebrating the Demons’ return after a five-year absence by inviting all ex-players and members of both clubs to a full day of entertainment.

There will be junior matches between the Demons and the Tigers from 11.30am, the main event kicks off at 2.30pm as both clubs attempt to defend their 100% record.

The Demons won this fixture 44-18 last year and Demons’ player-chairman Andrew Bradshaw hopes for a repeat performance.

This is a big match for both teams,” said Bradshaw. “We’ve a few new players available to us through the St Peters link

and all will be playing well as they know they’ll be in contention for the Wales A squad for next month. Torfaen were the only team that we didn’t face when we won the Scott McRorie Nines a few weeks ago so we’re looking forward to facing them and hope to break in our new ground with a win.”

Valley Cougars welcome back players from injury this week as they look to put last week’s 80-4 defeat at Newport behind them when they visit the new boys Blackwood Bulldogs at Glan-yr-Afon Park on Wednesday (kick-off 7.00pm).

Included in the Cougars side is Pontypridd RFC’s Dale McIntosh for the first time this season, as both sides compete for their first win to lift themselves off the bottom of the table.

Due to team difficulties the match between Swansea Valley Miners and Aberavon Fighting Irish has been postponed. Check back on the fixtures page for the rescheduled date.

In the other game in the West The Blue Bulls will entertain the Conference new boys, the West Wales Sharks at Porthcawl RFC. They faced each other last week in a closely contested game in Llanelli where the Blue Bulls eventually ran out 38-18 winners.  The Sharks will be hoping to turn this around to pick up their first points in the conference.
