Bridgend Blue Bulls will be aiming for their fifth successive Welsh rugby league title when they take on Newport Titans at the Brewery Field in the Co-operative Welsh Conference Premier Grand Final this Saturday (kick-off 1pm).
Bridgend finished top of the Conference table losing just one game throughout the regular season, while Newport, after leading the competition for the first half of the season, eventually finished in third place.
Both sides overcame tough opposition last week to eventually record handsome wins to qualify for the showpiece occasion.
Newport will be appearing in their first final and they are well up for the challenge.
Titans’ coach Dan Clements said: “This will be the biggest game in our short history and getting to this stage is a reward for all the hard work put in over the last four years. We have been dreaming and hoping that this would be the final from the start of the season and we are delighted those dreams have come true.”
The Blue Bulls will be without Matthew Hutchings and Paul Smithson for the final after they both suffered injuries in last weekend’s semi-final win over Valley Cougars and they are replaced by Marc Davies and Neil Dixon.
Bulls’ stalwart Carle Ellis will start

Saturday’s final from the bench and he will become the only player to have appeared in all five Welsh finals if he comes on.
Blue Bulls’ captain Jon Purnell said: “It’s going to be very tough in the final and the Titans will want revenge after we stole a late victory in our last match against them. But we have a great team and will be going all out to make it five Welsh titles in a row.”
In their last encounter just four weeks ago the Blue Bulls beat the Titans 28-26 after scoring two tries in the final three minutes to secure victory, so a tense and close match is expected.
Wales Rugby League Chairman Mark Rowley has appealed for supporters of both codes to get behind the final saying: "2007 has been a fantastic season and the standards in the Conference this year have improved enormously. We are expecting a great game on Saturday and I urge everyone to get behind the two teams who have been the most consistent all summer and deserve their places in the final."
