Match Officials profiles

Name:
Peter Young

Place of Birth:
Aberdare

Other Hobbies:
Running and playing golf very badly

Why did you become an official:
I reffed rugby union for a number of years. Gradually I became dis –illustioned  by the ill-discipline shown towards refs’ by club officials and on occasions players.

I have always enjoyed league and if I were a few years younger I would play, but the next best thing , I think, is reffing.

Having had a season in the conference there was no problem with club officials or players, there was always a physicality not normally experienced in union but all matches were played in a sportsman-like manner.

I would urge anyone reading this to consider taking up the whistle and get involved in reffing league. It’s very intense but most enjoyable.
