Demons 64 Valley Miners 14

Cardiff mine a score too deep for Swansea to dig out of
Old favourites Mark Bow and Jamie Iles returned to Cardiff Demons for their first match of the season and gave the team some inspiration as they hammered Swansea Valley Miners 64-14 at Taffs Well for their first win of the season.

Cardiff dominated the first half and took the lead in only the fifth minute with a well worked try from Sean Gilbertson.

Bow was keen to make his mark on the match and it was his determination that lead to the Demons' second try. Choosing to run in a penalty, he barged past three defenders to touch down in the 15th minute.

The Demons carried on to dominate as two tries from Idris Evans and one each from Lee Mullane and Mark Devine gave them a 30-0 lead.

However, Swansea fought back with two tries, one either side of half time. Paul Griffiths scored in the 40th minute with Pat McLernon giving the visitors hope in the 45th, bringing the score back to 30-10.

From then on, Cardiff dominated. In the 50th minute came the try of the match.

Cardiff showed how they have learned from their errors of the first few games and a great set of passes with no handling errors whatsoever lead to Gwion Bowen scoring. He followed this up with another try two minutes later, this one a mazy rub and scoring under the posts.

Lee Mullane then broke through the defence to score under the posts in the 65th minute before completing his hat-trick in the 70th deservedly earning himself the Parkhouse Recruitment Man of the Match award.

Swansea never gave up the fight and were rewarded with a try from kick-off. Paul Griffiths regained possession straight from kick-off and ran in a consolation try for the visitors.

However today was Cardiff Demons' day as Lewis Francis and Sion Williams completed the scoring for the Demons, each scoring tries in the final six minutes.

While Cardiff have a day off on Monday, Swansea will host Valley Cougars at Ystalyfera RFC - kick off 2.30pm.
