Tigers halt Demons revival
Torfaen Tigers continued their revival after a recent run of three defeats to register a hard won victory over Cardiff.

The resurgent Demons, who were looking for a third straight victory, began well with a Gareth Jones penalty and a Lee Mullane try and held their 6-0 lead until 25 minutes when Lloyd Burns took the ball well on the Cardiff line and touched down under the posts allowing Matthew Entwistle to level the scores.

It stayed at 6-6 until just before the break, when the Tigers hit the front with two quick tries from Lloyd Burns and Gareth Marks giving them a 14-6 half time lead.

The Demons hit back immediately after the break with a well worked try from the scrum by standoff Gareth Jones, but the Tigers reasserted their control on 56

minutes with a fine try from Lee Taylor after a good handling movement. Damien Hudd extended the Torfaen lead to fourteen but Lee Mullane gave Cardiff hope bringing the score back to 26-18 when he burst through on the left with nine minutes to go.

But as in the opening day encounter between the teams, the game was sealed for Torfaen by two late tries, this time both short-range efforts from winger Damien Smith. With this victory the Tigers go above Newport to reclaim third place in the Welsh Conference while the Demons remain fifth.

Torfaen: tries: Burns (2), Marks, Taylor, Hudd, D Smith (2): Goals: Entwistle (5). Cardiff: tries: Mullane (2), G Jones: Goals G Jones (3).
HT 14-6, Attendance 200.
