Blue Bulls 74 Valley Miners 28
Blue Bulls thrash Miners in 19 try thriller
An under strength Bridgend Blue Bulls team hammered the Swansea Valley Miners 74-28 at Coychurch Road scoring 13 tries with Craig Fox and Dai Owen both bagging hat-tricks.

Prop Mike Phillips opened the scoring with a try after 5 minutes and he was followed over the line by Lenny Woodard and Dai Owen, fullback Marc Davies converted all three to give the Bulls an 18-0 lead after just 10 minutes.

Simon Bevan hit back with a try and conversion for the Miners before Craig Fox kicked over the Swansea defenders heads and scored a super solo try. An excellent break by Carle Ellis saw Dan Williams scoring the Bulls fifth before further scores from Gareth Bartlett, Marc Davies and Dai Owen and seven goals from Marc Davies gave the reigning Welsh Conference Champions a 46-6 lead. But the Miners had the final say in the first half through a late try from Jon-Paul Stevens.

The second half saw the Blue Bulls score five more tries, while the Miners found an extra gear to cross on four occasions. Bulls centre Dai Own got his hat-trick after just two minutes before two quick scores from Miners Grant Robson and Rhys Cole made it 52-18.

A super charging run saw Gareth Bartlett get his second try of the game but the Miners again hit back thanks to a try from Tom Price.

That made the score 58-22 to the Blue Bulls before the small but speedy Craig Fox ran in two quick tries, the second after a fantastic run from teenager Lloyd O’Connor. Simon Bevan then scored his second try for the Valley Miners but the final word went to Lenny Woodard who ran 60 metres to score the home sides 13th try of the game.

This was another cracking game of Rugby League played in glorious weather, a

game which saw 19 tries scored and both teams showing skill that a pro-player would be proud of.

For the Bulls Dai Owen was once again superb, and he along with Craig Fox thoroughly deserved their hat-tricks. Marc Davies and Jon Williams both kicked brilliantly bagging 11 out of 13 goals between them while Carle Ellis, Lenny Woodard and Lloyd O’Connor looked dangerous whenever they had the ball. The forwards were also immense with Dan Williams and Gareth Bartlett again shining.

For the Miners Simon Bevan and Tom Price were excellent and despite being well beaten they never gave up and tackled till the final whistle and scored 4 tremendous second half tries.

The Blue Bulls will have a much tougher match next week when they travel to Taffs Well RFC to take on the ever improving Cardiff Demons.
