A crucial interception allowed Christian Roates to score a length of the field try and bring the Miners back to within four, then further scores from Dylan Griffith and Gareth James gave the Miners a surprise 32-24 lead with twelve minutes to play.
Wave after wave of Cardiff pressure was repelled until Wayne Williams finally broke through for a fine try on 77 minutes. But it was too little too late as the Miners took full advantage of their opportunity to leapfrog the Demons into fifth place.
