Swansea 0 Glamorgan 34
Glamorgan University opened their rugby league season with a crushing 34-0 win at newly promoted Swansea on Wednesday.

The away side, who claim to have their best side in years, showed that they had strength in both attack and defence throughout the game.

They took an early 10-0, with tries in the first ten minutes from Paul Jonker and Gareth Evans. Skipper, Chris Coombs converted the second.

Jason Tomlinson added a third try on 20 minutes, Jonker got his second on 27 and a Carl Gabrielson try under the sticks on 32 minutes made the half-time score 24-0.

Swansea picked up a lot in the second half, doing everything but cross the line.
“Our defence was hot today,” said coach, Darren Jones. “I’m proud of the lads that nothing got past them despite our errors and Swansea completing more sets than us in the second half. We showed great strength.”

Glamorgan finally got onto the score sheet again on 65 minutes. With Swansea tiring, Ben Rawlings broke free of their pack, running 40 metres to score under the posts.

Mark Hodge completed the scoring in the 77th minute, forcing his way over the line to ground in the corner.
