Exeter 24 Gloucestershire 15
Fortress Duckes remains in-tacked and unscathed as Exeter forced the win against Gloucestershire. Gloucestershire went ahead early on with a drop goal giving them a 1-0 advantage. However it wasn't long before Exeter scored. Charlie Robin rounded off a superb training ground move to score under the posts. The kick was then converted by James Hunt to extend EURL's lead to 6-1. However Gloucestershire capitalised on some handling errors allowing them to score a try which was then converted to take them back into the lead 7-6.

Exeter then replied quickly to get back into the lead with a try from Ali Taylor. Exeter were camped in Gloucestershire's half for a good 20-25 minutes during the first period. They showed great attacking play as well as a great defensive line to compound the away side. Excellent two man tackles from likes of Matt Wesley, Charlie Robin, Joe Collins
and James Grout who were at the core of the defence. In attacking play there were big boshes going in hard and fast notably from debutante Angus Booth and James Hunt.

The second half was scrappy and wasn't quite as rewarding as the first for Exeter. As the game wore on mistakes and handling errors were becoming more frequent however the team stuck together and still took a relatively comfortable win. Although there is still some work to do Exeter looked the part for a good 60 minutes and credit goes to all the players for their performances. It is important to win the first game and set your stall out and that is exactly what the boys did. Special mention goes to Ali Taylor for his man of the match performance, achieving a hat-trick of tries.
